Get to Know the Electra Glide® Standard
The pedigree of the Electra Glide dates all the way back to 1941 when the first FL model was introduced. The FL is notable since it is the first large-framed Harley-Davidson®, and it has often been a model through which the brand has added innovations to the lineup. The Electra Glide name was first used in 1965, and it marked the first time that the FL series had an electric start on it. The Electra Glide is also notable in that in 1969 it premiered a fairing that would become known as the batwing. The current Electra Glide® Standard is the only H-D® motorcycle to bear the name. That said, the Ultra Limited is technically an Electra Glide and had actually been called the Electra Glide Ultra Limited in the past.
The Electra Glide is a large-framed Grand American Touring motorcycle with a batwing fairing. The Street Glide is also a large-framed Grand American Touring motorcycle with a batwing fairing. They even share the same engine, so there definitely are many similarities. However, there are differences in terms of the standard loadouts, the optional equipment, the feel, refinement and so forth. We absolutely recommend riders unfamiliar with these bikes to test-ride them both for a more nuanced appreciation.
Electric Glide Updates for 2022
While there are tweaks here and there, there are not many changes made to the 2022 Harley-Davidson® Electra Glide® Standard near Atlanta compared to the previous model. The most notable update is one that is occurring across the Grand America Touring family for 2022. All of these motorcycles now feature Reflex linked Brembo brakes with standard ABS as standard equipment.
